2 Small Maruti Suzuki Cars Soon Get Dualjet Engine

Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce the Dualjet petrol engine to its two existing small cars – Ignis and S-Presso. It’s the same gasoline motor that does duty in the Celerio, Swift, WagonR, Baleno and Dzire. The 1.2L Dualjet K12C unit comes boosted with the idle start-stop technology (ISG) that automatically switches off the engine when it’s idling and restarts it with a simple press of clutch. It not only reduces fuel consumption during idling, but enhances fuel efficiency as well. The Dualjet motor also been equipped with the cooled EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system, piston cooling jet and higher compression ratio.

Currently, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is available with a 1.0L K10B petrol engine that’s good enough for 68bhp. It will be replaced by the K10C Dualjet engine delivering power worth 67bhp, sourced from the Celerio. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis, on the other hand, will receive the 1.2L K12N motor pushing out a peak power of 90bhp. At present, the small car comes with the 83bhp, 1.2L K12M motor. Both models are unlikely to witness any cosmetic change or feature upgrade.

Maruti S-Presso CNG

In other updates, the Indo-Japanese automaker is planning to expand its CNG model range in coming months. The company has planned the CNG version of the new Baleno hatchback along with the Ciaz sedan, Brezza compact SUV and Ertiga MPV. This year, Maruti Suzuki will also foray into the highly-competitive mid-size SUV segment that’s currently dominated by the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The new Maruti mid-size SUV, which will be co-developed with Toyota, will underpin DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform.

Codenamed Maruti YFG, the model is reported to mark India debut of the company’s new strong hybrid technology. It was recently introduced on the global-spec Suzuki Vitara SUV. The new Maruti SUV is reported to hit showrooms in the second half of 2022. More details on the upcoming model are likely to be revealed in near future.
