Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor are ready to foray into the mid-size SUV segment with new models. Both SUVs have been codenamed ‘Maruti YFG’ and ‘Toyota D22’ respectively. The first spy images of the new mid-size SUVs were recently emerged on the web revealing a few design details. Here’re 4 key facts we know so far about the upcoming Maruti, Toyota SUVs.
DNGA Platform
Both SUVs will be based on the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) modular platform that has newly-developed underbody and suspension. It not only provides high rigidity body, but reduces vehicles’ weight as well. The DNGA has been developed especially for the emerging markets.
Different Looks
The prototypes of the new Maruti, Toyota SUVs were heavily camouflaged covering most of the details. Though, one can notice the silhouette that shares resemblance to the new Toyota SUVs including the RAV4 and Corolla Cross. The Maruti YFG, on the other hand, will feature A-Cross inspired LED DRLs with the split headlamp setup and a new grille similar to the updated Baleno. Design bits such as pronounced wheel arches, alloy wheels, turn indicators mounted ORVMs and a high ground clearance (around 200mm) will further enhance their SUV-ish looks. As of now, interior details of the new Maruti, Toyota mid-size SUV are still under the wraps. Though, both models are likely to be equipped with a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech and other features.
Hybrid Powertrain
Powering the new mid-size SUVs could be Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5L K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine that’s good for 104bhp and 138Nm. The motor is rumoured to be boosted with stronger hybrid technology, thus making it more powerful and fuel efficient.
Launch Timeline
The new Maruti, Toyota SUVs are reported to arrive in the second half of 2022 (possibly near around Diwali season).
