25 Million Maruti Suzuki Cars Sold In India – New Milestone

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has achieved a significant milestone of selling 25 million (2.5 crores) units in the country since 1983. It’s the first car manufacturer in India to touch this sales mark. It’s cumulative sales of hybrid and CNG models was approximately 2.1 million units. The carmaker had introduced its first car – Maruti 800 – in December 1983. Currently, the company has 17 models in its Indian product portfolio including hatchbacks, SUVs, hybrid and CNG cars.

In 2022, the Indo-Japanese carmaker recorded a 15 percent annual growth with sales over 1.5 million units. Major sales contribution (55%) came from the small car segment that includes Maruti Celerio, Swift, WagonR, Ignis and Baleno. The company retailed 3,37,157 units of the SUVs and MPVs and 2,27,824 units of the entry-level Alto and S-Presso. At present, Maruti Suzuki has around 4.05 pending orders due to supply chain constraints.

The Indo-Japanese automaker will soon expand its SUV model lineup with two new products – Fronx compact crossover and Jimny 5-door off-road SUV. The Maruti Fronx will be put up against the Renault Kiger, Tata Punch and Nissan Magnite. It will come in Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha trims and two engine options – 1.0L Boosterjet petrol and 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.

Maruti Jimny 5-door SUV will be made available with the 1.5L K15B petrol engine delivering 105bhp and 134Nm. There will be two variants on offer – Zeta and Alpha. Some of its key features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, a colour MID display, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, 4-speaker audio system, rear defogger, reversing camera, power windows, brake limited slip differential, electronic stability program, seatbelt pretensioners, 6 airbags, Isofix child seat anchorages and more.
