Maruti Fronx Compact Crossover – Price Expectations & Rivals

Maruti Suzuki is ready to roll out its first Nexa-exclusive compact crossover in the country. Called the Maruti Fronx, the model is likely to go on sale in March 2023. While its prices will be officially revealed next month, it’s expected to cost around Rs 8 lakh for the entry-level variant and up to Rs 11 lakh for the top-end variant. In the company’s Nexa product range, the Fronx will bridge the gap between the Baleno and Brezza.

Once launched, the new Maruti compact crossover it will compete against the cars like Tata Punch, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. Its rivals are currently available within the price range of Rs 6 lakh – Rs 9.54 lakh, Rs 6 lakh – Rs 10.77 lakh and Rs 5.97 lakh – Rs 10.79 lakh respectively. It will also take on the sub-4 meter Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300, which are priced from 7.70 lakh, Rs 7.69 lakh, Rs 7.62 lakh and Rs 8.41 lakh respectively.

 The new Maruti Fronx SUV model lineup will be made available in five trims – Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha. The range-topping Alpha trim comes with some exclusive features such as a 360 degree camera, Head-up display (HUD), leather wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and dual-tone colour schemes. The standard feature kit includes dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, hill hold assist, rear defogger, electronic stability program, tilt adjustment for steering, powered windows, 60:40 rear seat split, automatic climate control, keyless entry and go, fabric seat upholstery, dual-tone interior and halogen projector headlamps.

The new Maruti compact crossover can be had with either a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol Boosterjet or a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both motors have mild hybrid technology. While the Boosterjet unit makes power worth 100bhp and 147.6Nm of torque, the NA motor delivers 90bhp with 113Nm. There are three gearboxes on offer – a 5-speed manual (standard), a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (turbo-petrol only) and a 5-speed AMT (NA petrol only).
