12 SUVs/Cars New-Generation Models Planned for India

Car manufacturers have planned several new models across different segments for the Indian market. While there will multiple all-new products, the carmakers will give a generation change to their popular models. Here’re details of the upcoming new-generation SUV/car models, which have been slated to launch in the next 2 years.  

Upcoming New-Gen Maruti Cars

2022 Maruti Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki popular Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV, Celerio and Alto hatchbacks are ready to enter into their new generations in the next couple of years. While the new Vitara Brezza and Celerio are reported to hit roads in the second half of this year, the new Alto is likely to arrive in 2022 or 2023. All three models will witness comprehensive design changes and feature and mechanical upgrades.

Sitting on the new Heartech platform, the 2021 Maruti Celerio will come with more powerful petrol engine. In fact, the hatchback will grow dimensionally. The second-generation Maruti Vitara Brezza is reported to come with a sunroof, stronger hybrid system and a new 6-speed automatic gearbox. The new-generation Maruti Alto might have its global debut towards the end of this year. Though, its launch is likely to happen sometime next year. The hatchback’s new model might feature Suzuki’s SHVS hybrid technology along with a bunch of new goodies.

Upcoming New-Gen Mahindra SUVs

Mahindra XUV400 funster

Mahindra XUV700 will be a spiritual successor of the XUV500 that’s scheduled to launch in the second half of this year. In terms of design and features, it will be a far cry from the current generation. The XUV700 will be the most powerful petrol SUV in its segment featuring 190bhp, 2.0L turbo mStallion unit. Its diesel version will come with 185bhp, 2.2L mHawk unit.

The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will come with improved design, more upmarket interior and powerful engines. There will be 158bhp, 2.2L turbo diesel and a new 2.0L turbo petrol engines on offer. Buyers will have manual and automatic gearboxes to choose from.

Upcoming New-Gen Tata Cars

2022 Tata Nexon

Tata’s highly popular Nexon subcompact SUV, Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan will enter into their next generation sometime in 2022 or 2023. All three models will be designed on the brand’s new Alfa (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform that underpins the Altroz. Rumour has it that the 2022 Tata Nexon might come with a new DCT automatic gearbox along with a hybrid powertrain. As of now, details are scanty.

Upcoming New-Gen Ford SUVs

2020 Ford Endeavour Sport Teaser

The American carmaker is ready to give a generation change to the EcoSport and Endeavour SUVs. Globally, the 2022 Ford Endeavour (Everest) will be made available with three engines (2 diesel and a petrol plug-in hybrid). The diesel models will come with 210bhp, 2.0L twin turbo and a new 250bhp, 3.0L turbo motor (top-end trims only). The plug-in hybrid version will feature a 2.3L turbo petrol unit and a hybrid system. After the break-up with Mahindra, it’s difficult to comment on the new-generation Ford EcoSport.

Upcoming New-Gen Toyota SUVs

2022 Toyota Fortuner Launch

The new-generation Toyota Fortuner is reported to hit Indian roads sometime in 2022. The model will receive noticeable cosmetic and feature upgrades including the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), electric power steering, electronically controlled vehicle stability control and hydraulic power steering. The 2022 Toyota Fortuner might also come with the new diesel hybrid powertrain.

Upcoming New-Gen Renault SUVs

Renault Duster 156bhp petrol

The third-generation Renault Duster is currently under development. The SUV might see a release in 2022 or 2023. The SUV’s new model will be designed on the global platform and is likely to take its design inspiration from the Dacia Bigster concept. If reports are to be believed, the 2022 Renault Duster might be offered with two seating configurations – 5 and 7-seats.
