We have witnessed the launch of the new Toyota Fortuner facelift last week. The SUV received noticeable cosmetic changes and feature upgrades along with the more powerful diesel engine. Speaking to Autocar, Yoshiki Konishi, chief engineer, Toyota Motor Corporation, has revealed that the company is working on the new-generation Fortuner that will hit Indian roads sometime next year (2022).
While the 2022 Toyota Fortuner will continue to underpin the ladder-frame chassis, it will receive comprehensive changes in terms of design and features. One of the biggest update might come in the form of the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), which is already offered on its new arch rival – MG Gloster.
The ADAS technology includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic parking assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking and blind spot detection. One must note that the aforementioned features are already available in the global-spec Fortuner. Read – All-New Toyota Avanza (Suzuki Ertiga Rival) Debut This Year
With the generation change, the Toyota Forutner will ditch the hydraulic power steering for the EPS (electric power steering). The SUV will also receive electronically controlled VSC (vehicle stability control) technology. Both features will enhance its on-and off-road capabilities.
Major changes are also expected to be made under its hood. The 2022 Toyota Fortuner is reported to come with diesel-hybrid powertrain that will be more efficient and eco-friendly. However, there is no clarity whether it will get Toyota’s strong hybrid system or mild hybrid technology. At present, the SUV comes with a 2.8L diesel and 2.7L petrol engines delivering a claimed power of 104bhp and 166bhp respectively.
The newly-launched Fortuner facelift comes in 7 variants priced from Rs 29.98 lakh – Rs 37.58 lakh (all, ex-showroom). Prices of the new-generation model will surely be higher than the current model. More details on the 2022 Toyota Fortner are likely to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
