Honda HR-V (Hyundai Creta Rival) – When Will It Launch?
Honda HR-V SUV is most likely to arrive in India in 2020.
Japanese automaker, Honda is gearing up for the launch of the highly-awaited new Civic sedan in the Indian market. Scheduled to be launched on March 7, 2019, the new Honda Civic will be, for the first time, available with a diesel powertrain. It is expected that the globally popular sedan will be the last new Honda product planned for India this year. The company will again start launching new products in India in early 2020.
Honda is most likely waiting for the upcoming BSVI emission norms and is aiming to bring products that will meet the new emission norms. It was speculated that the new Honda HR-V compact SUV will be launched by the end of this year. We believe that the new SUV won’t come before mid-2020. It is expected to make India debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.
Another possibility is that Honda could use the new Amaze platform to develop an all-new SUV to take on Hyundai Creta. It is confirmed that the Japanese automaker is planning to enter into the sub-4 meter SUV space, which is currently dominated by Maruti Vitara Brezza. The new Amaze platform is versatile and strong enough to accommodate different body styles including SUVs and hatchbacks.
Coming back to the HR-V, the 5-seater premium SUV has recently received a first major facelift. International media reports claim that the next-gen Honda HR-V is under development. In fact, the next HR-V could arrive before the next-gen Jazz hatchback. A possible launch in the late 2020 can’t be ignored.
There is a possibility that Honda could wait for the next-gen HR-V instead of introducing the existing model in India. It is quite early to comment on the exact timeline for the launch of this SUV in India. However, it is confirmed that the SUV won’t arrive in India in 2019. The company is currently working on the next-gen City sedan, which is likely to be unveiled in Thailand around October 2019. For India, the sedan is expected to be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo.
