Honda Working On A Sub-4 Metre Compact SUV For India

Suffering from declining sales of diesel cars, Honda Car India is now planning to launch a new Mini SUV, new Civic and the Accord Hybrid in the next 2 years.

In order to improve its market share, Honda Car India is planning to launch a range of new products in the country in the next couple of years. The company will launch new Accord Hybrid this year, while the new Honda Civic sedan is likely to be launched in 2017. Honda has been witnessing a continuous decline in sales in the past 6 months. Despite launching new products – Honda BRV and new Amaze – the company failed to increase its sales in the market. Sudden shift in buyer demand from diesel to petrol is claimed to be the main reason behind Honda’s declining sales. Speaking to TOI, Yoichiro Ueno, CEO, Honda Cars India, said that the mini SUV segment looks promising. “The growth in the category is significant, and we believe that it will continue. Honda is now considering how to capture the SUV segment,” he told TOI.

As a reminder, Honda is planning to launch a mini crossover based on the Jazz hatchback. Likely to be Called Honda WRV, the crossover is scheduled to make its global debut in November at Sao Paulo Motor Show. In fact, Honda has already started exporting components of the crossover from India to Japan. Codenamed 2FM, the WRV will rival the likes of the Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Avventura and Maruti Vitara Brezza.
