Homegrown automaker, Mahindra will launch 3 all-new utility vehicles – Marazzo premium MPV, a sub-4 meter SUV codenamed S201 and a 7-seater premium SUV based on the SsangYong Rexton – in India this year. While the S201 will rival the likes of Tata Nexon and Maruti Vitara Brezza, the Marazzo will take on the Toyota Innova Crysta and Tata Hexa. The XUV700 will be Mahindra’s most expensive SUV for the Indian market. It will directly rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.
This 7-seater SUV was first showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, without any nameplate. It is likely to use the popular XUV badge and could be called the Mahindra XUV700. Codenamed Y400, the SUV has been spotted several times during its test rounds on Indian roads. This time, the clear images of the SUV have hit the internet. Production-ready model looks largely identical to the global SsangYong Rexton G4, except for the new Mahindra-like front grille. It features a newly designed vertically slated grille with Mahindra logo at the centre.

What’s interesting is that the spotted model was wearing the Y400 badge. However, we believe that the model will carry a different name and XUV700 will most probably the final name. Additionally, the XUV700 is 55mm longer and 105mm wider than the top-selling Tooyota Fortuner. It measures 4,850mm in length, 1,960mm in width and 1,800 in height.
It will be powered by a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that also powers the global SsangYong Rexton. This turbocharged engine produces 187bhp of power and 420Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic unit. The exact launch date of the SUV is yet to be announced, but Mahindra has confirmed that the SUV will go on sale before the end of this year.
