Renault’s popular hatchback – Kwid – will receive its first major update in India. According to a fresh report, the French carmaker will give a mid-life update to the Kwid during 2019 festive season. While the launch (rumored) is months away, the new Renault Kwid 2019 has been snapped in a dealer stockyard. The recent sighting indicates that the production of the updated Kwid is already underway at the carmaker’s Tamil Nadu based plant.
For 2019 model year, the Kwid hatchback will witness subtle aesthetic changes and a few new features. Mechanically, the vehicle might remain unchanged. Visually, the new Renault Kwid 2019 appears similar to the current model. Though, it gets a new grille with chrome detailing at the front end. One can also notice the new graphics on the side moulding. The dark finish wheel covers with matching ORVM casings are carried over from the existing 1000cc (1.0L) variant. What’s interesting here is Renault will offer a reverse parking camera integrated into Renault’s signature badge on the boot lit. It will not only help driver to maintain control during parking, but offer visibility as well. The new Renault Kwid 2019 might also get an updated 7-inch MediaNAV touchscreen with display for the reverse parking camera. Renault might reserve aforementioned features for the existing top-spec RXT grade or a new range-topping RXZ grade. The Renault Kwid Climber might also be equipped with all mentioned features. Just so you know, the French carmaker added Climber variant to the Kwid lineup in March, 2017.
As mentioned above, the new Renault Kwid 2019 will continue to come with the 0.8-litre, three-cylinder and a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine options. The small capacity motor delivers 54PS with 72Nm and the bigger one makes 68PS with 91Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on the carline. With a bunch of new features and slightly updated styling, the range-topping variant of the new Renault Kwid 2019 might see a price hike. Currently, the hatchback comes in the price range of Rs 2.68 – Rs 4.35 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
