Renault had launched the Kwid small car in the Indian market in mid-2015. With competitive pricing along with practicality and efficiency, the new small car has been an instant hit among first time car buyers in the country. This entry-level segment is set to receive several new cars including new generation Maruti Alto and Tata Pelican. Seeing the growing competition, Renault is aiming to give a major makeover to this hatchback to remain popular among buyers. The Renault Kwid 2018 is likely to receive subtle changes to exterior and interior along with addition of new features.
If reports are to be believed, Renault is also planning to add new and better equipped variants in the Kwid lineup. Additionally, the French automaker is also planning to launch a compact SUV, a seven-seater MPV and a sub-4 meter sedan on the Kwid’s platform. As a reminder, the small car is developed on Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A modular platform that also underpins the Datsun Redi-Go.

The current Kwid hatchback is available in 16 variants in both manual and automatic versions. While the base model is priced at Rs 2.61 lakh, the top-end variant cost Rs 4.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 2018 model is likely to get new features and new safety features, which will make it expensive than the regular car. We believe that the updated Kwid could be priced between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.

The current model was launched in the second half of 2015. We believe that the Kwid facelift will go on sale in the second half of 2018. A possible debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo can’t be ignored.
Renault Kwid 2018 Exterior Design
The small car features a forward leaning stance that gives it a muscular appeal. Despite being an entry-level hatchback, the Kwid stands out from the crowd, thanks to its crossover-ish styling and flared wheel arches. Based on the CMF-A platform, the Renault Kwid 2018 model gets honeycomb grille and stylish headlamps with C-shaped chrome trim. It has an aggressive front bumper design that accommodates fog lamps.
The side profile looks sporty, thanks to flared wheel arches and sharply raked windscreen. It features plastic cladding at the base of the doors. At the back, the vehicle gets smaller glass section and sharp lip on the boot door. There is a plastic cladding on the boot door that houses the number plate. The current model rides on 13-inch wheels, while the 2018 model could get a new 14-inch alloy wheels.

Renault’s small hatchback gets simple interior, offering decent space for five adults. The vehicle is claimed to offer best-in-class shoulder room, headroom and legroom. It gets piano black finish on the dashboard with chrome inserts that look upmarket. Feature list include a digital instrument console, front power windows and optional driver airbag. It also gets several segment-leading features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment syste with navigation system, remote keyless entry with central locking, one-touch lane change indicator and front fog lamps. The vehicle offers a class-leading boot space of 300-litres.
The company is also offering several accessories that allows to buyers to choose from over 60 categories and 6 packs. It also gets ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), driver airbag, digital tachometer and internally adjustable ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors).

Powering the Kwid is an all-new 799cc, 3-cylinder DOHC petrol engine that is also available on the Datsun Redi-GO. This engine is good for 53.2bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. This super compact engine is claimed to be the most fuel efficient in its league.
The top-end model is also available with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard, while an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) unit is available as optional. The 2018 model will also come with same set of engines.

Should You Buy This Car?
If you are a first time buyer than Renault Kwid is a good option for you. However, Maruti Alto is still feature better quality interior and offers improved performance. This small car targets budget conscious buyers looking for a big-feel hatchback at a less cost. The vehicle misses out on safety, as the driver side airbag and ABS available on the top-end variant only.
