Renault Kwid Small SUV

Renault Kwid’s CMF-A platform based compact SUV and a B-segment hatchback in the works; likely to debut as concept at Auto Expo 2018.

Buoyed by positive response for Kwid hatchback, Renault is now planning to launch an affordable 7-seater MPV to challenge Maruti Ertiga. Interestingly, a new media report claims that the company will launch a sub-4 meter SUV and a B-segment hatchback in the market in near future. Simile to the Kwid, the French automaker will invest around $400 million to develop a new global vehicle in India.

The new sub-4 meter SUV will be developed at the Renault-Nissan Technical Centre in Chennai. This new compact SUV will be based on the CMF-A platform that also underpins the Kwid hatchback. However, Renault engineers will modify this platform to make it compatible to accommodate larger SUV body. It will be positioned below the Duster and will challenge the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.

Besides, Renault is also working on a B-segment hatchback to challenge the likes of Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10. This model will also be based on the modified CMF-A platform. The report further claims that Renault could showcase the concept version of the cars at the 2018 Auto Expo, which is scheduled to happen in February 2018. Renault is also likely to showcase new versions of the Kwid at the Delhi Auto Expo. A possible debut of the production version of Kwid Racer at the event can’t be ignored.
