MG ZS SUV Spied For The First Time In India

First spy pictures of the MG ZS SUV have emerged on the web. The test mule was caught on camera during its test rounds in Gujarat. Just so you know, MG Motor established its first manufacturing plant at Halol, Gujarat that earlier belonged to GM (General Motors). The MG ZS could be the first product from the British carmaker in the Indian market.

The company confirmed that its first product in India will be a premium compact SUV that will be stacked up against the Hyundai Creta. However, the name of the vehicle is yet to be revealed by the carmaker. The SUV is scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2019.

The latest spy pictures show the side and rear profile of the SUV. It features 5-spoke alloy wheels, roof rails and a shark fin antenna. At the rear, the ZS sports a roof spoiler, wraparound tail amps and a raked rear windshield. The prototype was equipped with front and rear disc brakes. In the Indian market, the MG ZS is likely to be offered with the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that’s good for 170bh and 350Nm of torque. The same oil burner does duty in the Jeep Compass. The global-spec version, on the other hand, comes with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged and a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol powertrain options. For transmission duties, the SUV gets a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit.

MG Motors made an initially investment of Rs 2,000 crore in India and it will further increase it to Rs 5,000 crore over the next six years. The carmaker also aims to achieve localization level up to 80 per cent from the first day its operations. Besides the ZS SUV, the British carmaker might also bring in the MG 5 sedan, MG 3 hatchback and MG GS SUV in India.
