Volkswagen Taigun Teased; Coming To Rival Creta In 2021

The German carmaker is gearing to launch the all-new Volkswagen Taigun SUV in India in coming months. Ahead of its official price announcement, the company has dropped a teaser video revealing its silhouette and a few exterior details. The video also confirms that the Taigun will hit roads in 2021. It will be the brand’s first model to be designed on the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform and come under Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 project.

VW Group’s new MQB A0 architecture will also underpin the Skoda’s Vision IN concept based mid-size SUV that’s due for early 2021. It will be a highly localized platform that’s adaptable to suit both Indian climatic conditions and customers’ requirements. Volkswagen’s upcoming mid-size SUV will challenge dominance of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Volkswagen Taigun Launch

In terms of design and styling, the Volkswagen Taigun appears similar to the global-spec Volkswagen T-Cross. Though, the T-Roc is relatively longer and has more cabin space to offer. Upfront of the Taigun will have aggressive appeal with elements such as a two-slat vertical chrome grille, large squared-off headlamps, a more angular hood and bumper with chrome treatment. Some of its design highlights will include 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, rear quarter glass with graphics and LED taillamps connected via LED light bar. Interior details of the production-ready model are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to stay true to the concept that broke cover at the 2020 Auto Expo. There will be a multi-layer dashboard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an all digital instrument cluster. The SUV will also come with a multi-functional steering wheel and automatic climate control.

Volkswagen Taigun Specs

For power, the new Volkswagen Taigun SUV will use a 1.5L TSI petrol engine with cylinder deactivation technology. The motor will deliver power close to 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both manual and 7-speed DSG gearboxes will be on offer.
