Tata Altroz, the premium hatchback from the home-grown carmaker, will receive a new turbocharged variant next month. The company might announce the Altroz turbo petrol’s prices on 13th January, 2021. The new model will come with the 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine that also does duty in the Nexon subcompact SUV. However, the motor has been detuned for produced a different power output. While the official figures are yet to be announced, the new Tata Altroz turbo petrol is likely to offer 108bhp and 140Nm of torque.
Reports suggest that the hatchback’s new turbo variant might be offered with a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), sourced from Punch. Some of its critical parts will be supplied by Schaeffler and the gearshifter will come from Lumax. The new DCT unit will also be offered on other Tata cars in near future. It’s claimed to be “more sophisticated” and affordable than the existing AMT gearboxes and the conventional DCTs or torque convertor transmissions respectively.
Currently, the Tata Altroz is available with a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The gasoline unit pushes out a peak power of 85bhp with 113Nm of torque, and the diesel motor delivers 89bhp with 200Nm of torque. Both engines come with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Visually, the new Tata Altroz turbo petrol will be exactly similar to the regular model. The spy pictures reveal that it will feature a ‘Turbo’ badging at the rear section. In terms of pricing, the Tata Altroz turbo petrol is expected to cost between Rs 7.99 lakh – Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom). The regular model lineup comes in the price range of Rs 5.44 lakh – Rs 7.89 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The new turbo petrol model will be placed against the Hyundai i20 1.0L Turbo.
