Volkswagen Taigun GT – Sportier Design, 1.5L Turbo Power, Aggressive Pricing

Volkswagen Taigun is all set to hit Indian roads in coming weeks. The SUV has been built on the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform and features up to 95% local components. The model lineup will be offered with 1.0, 3-cylinder TSI turbo and 1.5L, 4-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engines making 113bhp with 175Nm and 148bhp with 250Nm respectively. Both motors will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 6-speed automatic and a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission will be reserved for the 1.0L and 1.5L variants respectively. The carmaker will offer the range-topping Taigun GT variant with sportier design elements and exclusively with the 1.5L petrol engine. As mentioned above, it will come with manual and automatic gearboxes. The GT manual version is reported to be priced aggressively to make it “a lot more accessible”. Compared to its automatic counterpart, the manual variant will miss out on a few features.

The Volkswagen Taigun GT automatic will come with some additional features such as LED headlamps, red brake calipers, 17-inch wheels, a sunroof, push button start, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, auto dimming inside mirrors, side and curtain airbags, paddle shifters, tyre pressure loss indicator. The GT manual will get LED DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, rear wiper and washers, a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple and Android Auto connectivity, automatic climate control, engine start stop, a touch operable panel, wireless charging, dual airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), reverse camera and ABS with EBD. It will also come with a few pre-loaded apps. The GT variants features sportier styling elements including differently designed headlamps and alloy wheels, lots of chrome, red inserts on side, leather armrest and ambient lighting.

The Volkswagen Taigun GT Line variants might get cooled seats at a later stage. The carmaker might also be introduced a new GT edition with blackened chrome elements in coming months.
