2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI facelift has finally been revealed via official images on the web. Measuring around 4.05 meters in length, the hot hatch underpins the same MQB AO modular platform that’s used in the new-generation Polo. The updated model features an entirely new front fascia featuring a honeycomb mesh grille with integrated DRLs, newly-designed ‘IQ’ Light’ LED matrix headlamps along with the full-width front light bar. The carmaker says that its light bar “creates a style connection to the battery-electric ID models from Volkswagen and to the new vehicle generation of successful models like the Golf, Arteon and Tiguan”.
The 17-inch alloy wheels with new design, that share resemblance to the Golf, are standard across the model lineup. For the first time, the hot hatch gets dynamic turn signals. Other key updates include contrasting black mirrors and roof, wider taillamps, red brake calipers, dual exhaust tips and a revised rear bumper.
What boost its performance are the bespoke chassis, a large stabilizer on the front axle, stiffer axle locating mounts at the rear, rigid coupling rods at the front and lower ground clearance. The new Polo GTI receives Volkswagen’s Travel Assist system for the first time. It includes lane assist, side assist, adaptive cruise control and rear traffic alert.
On the feature front, the 2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI facelift offers an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. The Discover and Discover Pro Media systems are optional offerings. The list of features also includes a Beats sound system, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, voice control, autonomous emergency braking (standard), automatic post-collision braking, driver alert system and more.
At the heart of the 2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI facelift is the same 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine that’s good for 204bhp and 320Nm. It can do 0-632mph in 6.5 seconds. Transmission duties are performed by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
