Maruti Suzuki has a handful of new models scheduled for the coming years, with a strategy aimed at strengthening its market presence by tapping into multiple segments and price ranges while also updating its existing models. This year’s plans include the launch of the WagonR facelift and the new-generation Swift and Dzire. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki is set to foray into the electric vehicle (EV), premium 7-seater SUV, and affordable mini MPV segments. Here’s a brief overview of the upcoming Maruti 7-seater SUV and MPV, targeting family car buyers across different price categories.
Upcoming Maruti 7-Seater SUV
Codenamed Y17, the new three-row SUV from Maruti Suzuki will be based on the Grand Vitara underpinning Suzuki’s Global C architecture. Reports suggest that the model is slated to enter production at the company’s Kharkhoda-based plant in 2025. Most of its design elements, features, and components are expected to be borrowed from its 5-seater sibling, with a few cosmetic changes along with a longer body and a spacious cabin. Powertrains are likely to be carried forward from the Grand Vitara. This means it might feature the 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid setups, delivering power worth 103bhp and 115bhp, respectively.
Upcoming Maruti Mini MPV
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly planning to introduce an entry-level mini MPV to compete with the Renault Triber. The model, based on the Suzuki Spacia available in the Japanese market, is expected to be launched in 2026. The upcoming Maruti mini MPV (codenamed YDB) is anticipated to be slightly longer than the Japan-spec Spacia, which measures 3395mm in length, and is likely to offer a three-row seats arrangement. While the Suzuki Spacia boasts sliding doors and some fancy features, Maruti Suzuki’s mini MPV might miss out on these features. While it’s early to comment on its powertrains, the model is expected to feature the brand’s new Z-Series 1.2L petrol engine.
