New Maruti Mini MPV For India – Launch Timeline, Details

In a strategic move to uphold its dominant position in the Indian automotive market, Maruti Suzuki has charted an extensive product plan encompassing updates to the existing model lineup, the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids, and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) variants. In the current fiscal year, the Indo-Japanese automaker is set to introduce three significant products: the next-generation Swift hatchback, the revamped Dzire compact sedan, and an electric SUV based on the eVX concept.

Additionally, the popular WagonR hatchback is slated to undergo a mid-life update in the near future. The roadmap also includes the launch of a micro SUV challenging Hyundai Exter and a three-row SUV based on the Grand Vitara.

Maruti Small MPV

According to a fresh report, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce a mini SUV based on the Japan-spec Suzuki Spacia by 2026. This 7-seater model will exhibit a boxy and tall stance akin to its donor model and will fall under the sub-4 meter category. Codenamed YDB, the upcoming Maruti mini MPV is anticipated to be slightly longer than its Japanese counterpart, which measures 3,395mm in length. To ensure cost-effectiveness, the automaker may forego sliding doors and some extravagant features.

While details regarding features and engine specifications remain preliminary, the new Maruti mini MPV is expected to be equipped with the brand’s new Z-Series 1.2L petrol engine, making its debut in India with the next-generation Swift hatchback.

In Japan, the Suzuki Spacia is powered by a 658cc, 3-cylinder engine with mild hybrid technology, available in turbo and non-turbo versions delivering 64PS and 52PS, respectively. The micro MPV features a CVT gearbox with 2WD and 4WD options, whereas the Indian version may offer both manual and automatic transmissions.

Positioned below the Ertiga and XL6 in Maruti Suzuki’s product lineup, the new small MPV is expected to be retailed through Nexa dealerships. Upon launch, the model will directly compete with the Renault Triber, priced between Rs 6.33 lakh and Rs 8.97 lakh (ex-showroom).
