Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota is working on an all-new mid-sized sedan for the Indian car market. The saloon will be slotted between the Toyota Etios sedan and the premium Corolla Altis. If media reports are to be believed, the new saloon will be based on the Etios platform and is codenamed as Etios C or Etios Core.
This mid-sized saloon is likely to go on sale by the end of 2016 and it will rival against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Fiat Linea, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and soon to be launched Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The company started development of this product after doing several feasibility studies over the past few years. The company introduced the Etios sedan as an entry level model; however, it failed to find buyers in the country. Toyota is aiming to increases the sales volume by introducing the mid-sized sedan in the country.
It is also expected that Toyota is planning to launch the Vios sedan in the country. Based on the Yaris hatchback, the Vios dimensionally measures 4410mm in length, 1700mm in width and 1475mm in height. It comes with a large wheelbase of 2550mm, which in return offers a spacious cabin. The Toyota Vios sedan would be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. Its gasoline version is likely to get 1.5-litre VVT-I engine that produces 107bhp and 141Nm of torque. The oil burner is expected to be the 1.4-litre D4-D unit producing 88PS.
