Toyota Hilux Spotted In India – Details In 9 Quick Points

We have reported earlier that Toyota Kirloskar Motor is evaluating its globally popular Hilux lifestyle pickup truck for the Indian market. Recently, its single-cab variant with steel wheels and a flat bed was spotted testing in Delhi. In June 2020, the Toyota Hilux received a mid-life update with a more powerful and efficient engine and improved towing capacity.

– The pickup truck underpins the same IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) platform that has been used in the Fortuner SUV and Innova Crysta MPV.

– Besides the architecture, the 2021 Toyota Hilux shares its engine, suspension and braking mechanism with its siblings. Under the hood, the model employs a 2.8L, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that’s claimed to offer 15.3% extra power and 11.1% more torque and fuel efficiency than the old motor. The oil burner has been tuned for generating power worth 201bhp and 500Nm of torque.

– Globally, the pickup truck is being offered with three engine options – 2.7L petrol (164bhp/245Nm), 2.4L turbo diesel (145bhp/400Nm) and 2.8L turbo diesel (201bhp/500Nm).

– Buyers have three gearbox options – 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Select variants are available with 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system).

– The overall length, width and height of the Hilux stand at 5285mm, 1815mm and 1855mm respectively. Compared to the Fortuner and Innova Crysta, the pickup truck is longer.

– The 2021 Toyota Hilux’s suspension setup has been updated with longer shock absorbers travel and improved leaf spring structure.

– The lifestyle pickup truck comes packed with lots of goodies including a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and voice recognition.

–  The updated model also comes with Toyota Safety Sense that includes pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruiser control and lane departure alert.

– Some of its other key highlights include a 4.2L instrument cluster, digital radio, a larger trapezoidal grille with prominent horizontal elements, LED headlamps with DRLs and more.
