Toyota Kirloskar Motor has rolled out the Hiace 14-seater MPV in the country. The model has been made available in a single GL trim, which is priced at Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker has introduced the fifth-generation model as CBU (Completely Built Unit) with the arrival of the first import batch. One must note that the Toyota Hiace will be sold in limited numbers. The new 14-seater Toyota MPV derives its power from a 2.8L, 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes a top power of 151bhp and 300Nm of torque between 1,200rpm – 2,400rpm. It’s the same motor that does duty in the Fortuner, but the SUV offers power worth 204bhp and 420Nm (with MT)/500Nm (with AT). For performing transmission duties, the MPV has a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Buyers have White and Silver colour options to choose from. The MPV can accommodate 14 adult passengers and its last foldable row of seats allows to storage some extra luggage. The Toyota Hiace is more of a practical utility vehicle instead of a feature-packed, modern van. The India-spec model comes equipped with features such as a 2-DIN audio system with Aux and USB connectivity, power steering, AC vents for each row, power sliding rear doors, fabric seats, power windows, rear defogger and halogen headlamps. On the safety front, the Toyota Hiace offers dual front airbags and ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution). It has collapsible steering column, crumple zone construction and crash safety GOA body.
Globally, the carmaker sells the sixth-generation Hiace that’s based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture). With big dimensions, the new model can accommodate 17 passengers. It has been offered in two body types – Normal with Standard roof and a Longer version with High roof. It can be had with either a 3.5L V6 petrol engine or a 2.8L, 4-cylinder turbo diesel motor. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer.
