Skoda has released the first teaser image of the fourth generation Fabia hatchback, which has been caught testing multiple times. The teaser image reveals the silhouette (roofline) of the new Skoda Fabia. Skoda has also confirmed that the new model will be based on the VW Group’s Modular Transverse platform (MQB AO).
The MQB AO platform currently under the VW T-Cross, Skoda Kamiq, VW Nivus, Virtus and the new Polo hatchback. In fact, the locally developed version of this platform, called the MQB AO IN, will underpin the upcoming Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun mid-sized SUV. Skoda claims that the new platform improves the interior space and supports the use of state-of-the-art assistance systems and connectivity features.
The new Skoda Fabia is larger than its predecessor in all dimensions. The boot space of the hatchback is claimed to be increased by 50 litres. The new Fabia will be equipped with petrol engines. It will come with front-wheel drive layout, with a manual gearbox or 7-speed DSG automatic.
The hatchback is most likely to receive the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 108bhp and 175Nm of torque. The performance oriented version is expected to feature the 1.5-litre TSI unit that is capable of producing 147bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6MT, 6-speed torque convertor and a 7-speed DSG (1.5L Turbo unit).
Going by the spy images, the new Skoda Fabia will come with significant design changes. However, the overall profile will have resemblance with the third generation model. The hatchback will get LED lighting system and LED DRLs. The hatchback will receive signature Skoda butterfly grille, steeply angled rear windscreen, sharper lines and sloping roofline. The hatchback is likely to share most of the interior components with the new VW polo and the Skoda Kamiq. Reports suggest that Skoda will also introduce a rally-inspired look. This model will come with extra features.
New Skoda Fabia Global Debut
The new-gen Skoda Fabia is scheduled to be unveiled in the second quarter of 2021, most probably in April-June. Skoda has no immediate plans to launch the new Fabia in India.
