Toyota Corolla Cross H2 Concept Makes India Debut – Key Details

At the Auto Expo 2023, Toyota showcases its “multi-technology approach – which includes battery electric and fuel cell electric and plug-in hybrid electric and hybrid electric”. The carmaker has unveiled the Toyota Corolla Cross Hydrogen vehicle concept at the biennial automotive event.

Visually, the Corolla Cross H2 concept looks similar to the conventionally powered version. The showcased model has been painted in dual-tone Blue and White paint scheme highlighting its unique character.

Under the hood, the Toyota Corolla Cross H2 features a 1.6L, 3-cylinder in-line turbocharged petrol engine borrowed from the GR Corolla hatchback. The latter one delivers a maximum power of 304bhp and 370Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels via a 6-speed iMT gearbox. The carmaker says that the “Key merits of hydrogen combustion include the ability to leverage existing internal combustion engine technologies, quick refuelling times, and the clear reduction in the use and necessity for limited supply elements like lithium and nickel. By adapting existing technologies and further leveraging existing investments, hydrogen combustion could lead to widespread, accessible carbon-reduction solutions faster.”

Design and styling of the Toyota Corolla Cross appears more of crossover-ish. It carries a wide black radiator grille with black housing, sleek headlamps and rugged skid plate at the front end. The heavy side body cladding, squared-off wheel arches and a shark fin antenna further enhance its sporty appeal. It has wraparound taillamps at the rear. The overall length, width and height of the Corolla Cross H2 stand at 4490mm, 1825mm and 1620mm respectively. It has a wheelbase of 2640mm, ensuring ample cabin space and boot space.

At the mega automotive event, the Japanese automaker has also showcased the Toyota bZ4X compact SUV concept, new Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 SUV and modified Toyota Glanza.
