Top Upcoming 7-Seater MPVs (Family Cars) – 3 Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan

Multi Utility Vehicle (MPV) segment has been growing at a fast pace along with the SUV segment in India. These models have always been favoured for their practicality, ample cabin space and drivability. In order to further expand its business, car manufacturers are offering new technologies and safety features on the new models. For instance, Maruti Suzuki introduced the updated XL6 and Ertiga with extra goodies and more powerful and frugal engine. Many more new models have been planned for the MPV segment, which are likely to hit roads in the next couple of years. Here’re key details of the top 6 MPVs.

Toyota C-Segment MPV

Toyota Avanza MPV (1)

The Japanese automaker is reportedly working on a new C-segment MPV for the Indian market. While there is no official word on its launch timeline, the model is likely to arrive sometime in 2023. Codenamed 560B, the MPV will be relatively compact than the Innova Crysta and carry a different design language. Some of its styling bits could be borrowed from the Avanza MPV. The model is expected to be designed on Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform and come with a strong hybrid powertrain system. More details here…

Toyota Kirloskar Motor might bring in the re-badged version of the Ertiga facelift that recently went on sale. The final model could be named Toyota Rumion as the carmaker trademarked the nameplate. Under the hood, it will feature the new 1.5L K15C Dualjet petrol engine benefited with start stop technology and has two injectors per cylinder. Transmission options might include a 5-speed manual and a new 6-speed torque convertor automatic. Save for a few design elements, Toyota’s new MPV will be similar to the new Maruti Ertiga.

New-generation Toyota Innova Crysta is currently in its testing phase. Its final production version is likely to hit Indian roads sometime next year. Recently, the carmaker trademarked ‘Toyota Innova HYCROSS’ name that’s likely to be used for its hybrid version. The new 2023 Toyota Innova Crysta might be offered with the 1.5L petrol turbo engine paired to Toyota’s self charging hybrid technology. It will make the MPV more efficient and frugal. If reports are to be believed, the South Korean carmaker aims to tap the compact MPV segment with a new model. It could be the Hyundai Stargazer that’s unveiled for the Indonesian market. The model has the conventional people mover design with teardrop silhouette. Its length will be around 4.5 metres and it will come with 6 and 7-seats configurations. After the successful launch of the Nissan Magnite SUV, the Japanese automaker is planning to foray into the compact 7-seater MPV space. The upcoming new Nissan MPV is likely to be priced below Rs 10 lakh. As of now, details of the model are scanty. Though, it’s likely to sit on Triber’s platform and most of its design elements and features could be borrowed from the Magnite. In fact, the company might use the 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engines that do duty in its subcompact SUV sibling. Kia India might introduce the fouth-generation Carnival MPV in India next year. The new model is relatively longer, wider and taller than the current generation. It has more cabin space and features on offer including a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch instrument console, new ‘rear passenger view & talk’ feature, live telematics information via in-car touchscreen and smartphone and one-button smart open-and-close for the rear power sliding doors and tailgate.
