In November 2022, Tata Motors clocked total sales of 75,478 units (including commercial and passenger vehicles), registering a YoY growth of 21 percent over the corresponding month previous year. The company retailed 46,425 units of passenger vehicles as opposed to 29,947 units during the same month last year. The Tata Nexon remained the top contributor with total sales of 15,871 units, followed by the Punch mini SUV and Tiago hatchback. In fact, the Nexon emerged as India’s second top-selling car in November 2022.
The home-grown automaker managed to sell 12,131 units of the Tata Punch as against 6,110 units in November 2022. It recorded a YoY growth of 99 percent. A total of 5,097 units of the Tata Tiago were sold as opposed to 4,998 units during the same month last year. The Tata Altroz stood at number four with total sales of 5,084 units, recording a YoY growth of 68 percent. The carmaker sold 4,301 units of the Tigor compact sedan, 2,119 units of Harrier and 1,437 units of Safari SUV.
Tata’s Future Plans
Tata Motors is reported to introduce the Harrier and Safari facelifts in early 2023. Both models are likely to debut at the Delhi Auto Expo in January. The SUVs will receive minor cosmetic changes, while most of the upgrades will be made inside the cabin. The biggest feature upgrade will be the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) along with a 360 degree camera and an updated infotainment unit.
The company also aims to expand its electric product portfolio in coming years. In 2023, it might introduce the electric iteration of the Altroz hatchback and Punch mini SUV. It will also bring in the production-ready version of the Curvv, Avinya and Sierra SUVs in the next 4-5 years. Rumour has it that the company might re-introduce the Tata Nano with an electric powertrain as an affordable EV in future.
