5 Upcoming Tata Electric Cars & SUVs – Sierra To Curvv EV

Tata Motors is currently ruling the electric vehicle segment of the country with close to 80% market share. The company has recently introduced the long-range Nexon EV MAX, which is expected to further improve sales in the market. The homegrown automaker has announced to have 10 electric vehicles in the next 4-5 years.

In this article, we talk about the top 5 upcoming Tata electric cars and SUVs to be launched in the country in the next 2-3 years –

1. Tata Altroz EV

Tata Motors had showcased the concept version of the Altroz EV at the 2020 Auto Expo. The company has started testing the electric hatchback, which is expected to be launched before the end of 2022. Compared to the regular model, the new Altroz EV different bumpers, a closed-off grille, air dams with star pattern, new alloy wheels and blacked-out section of the tailgate.

The exact details about the powertrain are yet to be revealed. It is expected to feature Tata’s updated Ziptron electric technology that also powers the Nexon EV Max. Its battery size and power figures could be different from its electric subcompact sibling.

2. Tata Punch EV

Tata Motors has announced to launch the electric versions of its existing models based on the ALFA platform. The new EV is expected to be based on the Punch subcompact SUV. It is likely to be launched in 2023. The new model will come with design changes and upgraded interior. It is likely to share the electric motor and battery pack with the new Nexon EV.

3. Tata Curvv EV

Tata Motors has officially revealed the Curvv electric SUV Coupe concept. The production version of the SUV Coupe will be launched in the country by 2024. It is based on the Tatas X1 platform that underpins the Nexon range. Tata engineers have modified the platform to accommodate bigger model and different battery packs. The SUV Coupe is likely to measure 4.3 meters in length and will ride on a longer wheelbase. Tata Motors hasn’t release the powertrain options. It is likely to get a larger 40kWh battery pack with range over 400kms. It will rival the likes of the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.

4. Tata Avinya EV

Tata Motors had showcased the all-new electric SUV concept, the Avinya in the country. It is brand’s first concept model to be based on the GEN 3 architecture – ‘Born Electric’ – that supports multiple body styles. Similar to the conventional skateboard architecture, it has long wheelbase to accommodate large battery pack. The Avinya EV’s production version will witness a market launch in 2025.

5. Tata Sierra EV

Tata Motors will use 3 EV only platforms – a converted IC engine platform, new Sigma architecture and a skateboard for its future EVs. The company had showcased the Sierra EV concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. The production version of the Sierra Electric Vehicle will be based on Tata’s new SIGMA platform. It’s essentially based on the Alfa platform, but heavily modified for electrification. In order to accommodate electric powertrain, the automaker has modified its fuel tank area, remove transmission tunnel and pushed the side members for creating a flat floor for battery pack.
