Top 4 Upcoming Toyota SUVs/MPVs – Launch Timeline

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the Indian arm of the Japanese automaker, showcased some of its globally popular models at this year’s Auto Expo. As of now, the company has no plan to bring them in here. Though, Toyota has planned four new utility vehicles (UVs) for India including the updated Innova Crysta, a coupe SUV, a compact MPV and the new-generation Fortuner. Here’re some key details of the upcoming Toyota SUVs and MPVs that will go on sale in the next couple of years.

Updated Toyota Innova Crysta

Innova Crysta facelift Changes

The company might introduce the Toyota Innova Crysta with a few cosmetic changes and feature upgrades in the coming months. Its exact launch date is yet to be announced. The model is likely to come with a 2.7L, 4-cylinder petrol engine and a CNG fuel option. The MPV will also come with the 2.4L turbocharged diesel engine that’s good enough for 148bhp and 360Nm. The oil burner will be calibrated to meet the upcoming RDE (Real Driving Emission) norms that will be enforced from 1st April 2023. More details here…

The new Toyota Coupe SUV (codenamed A15) launch is also on cards (near around 2023 festive season). It will essentially be the re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx that’s ready to hit roads. Reports suggest that the new coupe SUV will be introduced as a replacement of the Urban Cruiser that discontinued in late 2022. Similar to the Fronx, Toyota’s new SUV will be offered with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol Boosterjet and 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. Toyota Rumion MPV

The Japanese automaker will also bring in the re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV. The model is already on sale in South Africa with Toyota Rumion nameplate. The company had trademarked the Rumion name in India. For power, the new Toyota compact MPV will use the 1.5L K15C Dualjet petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. New Toyota Fortuner Leader

The new-generation Toyota Fortuner is currently in its testing phase and its India launch is likely to happen sometime in 2024. Though, the model is expected to make it global debut in the second half of 2023. The all-new Fortuner will be based on the TNGA-F platform and come with significantly improved styling, advanced tech and hybrid powertrain. Under the hood, the SUV will feature a 1GD-FTV 2.8L diesel engine boosted with the mild hybrid tech and an integrated starter generator (ISG). The new Fortuner will offer features such as ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), electric power steering and vehicle stability control system. More details here…
