New-Gen Toyota Fortuner India Launch & Key Details

Toyota’s top-selling Fortuner SUV is all set to enter into its new generation next year. The SUV’s new model will be first launched in Thailand, followed by other Southeast Asian countries. It might make its way to India by the end of 2023 or early 2024. The 2023 Toyota Fortuner will witness comprehensive cosmetic changes and have new body panels. It will be high on features and come with a hybrid powertrain. One of the major updates will come in the form of the TNGA-F platform replacing the existing IMV architecture.

The same platform will underpin the new Toyota Innova HyCross that’s due for early 2023. Toyota’s global Tundra, Sequoia and Land Cruiser SUVs have been designed on the TNGA-G platform that supports wheelbase length ranging between 2850mm – 4180mm. The new architecture will help the automaker reduce costs and development time, while achieving significant gains in economies of scale.

Under the hood, the new Fortuner will employ a 1GD-FTV 2.8L diesel engine benefited with the mild hybrid technology and an integrated starter generator (ISG). The automaker is reported name the diesel hybrid powertrain – the ‘GD Hybrid’. The new hybrid powertrain will make the SUV more fuel efficient than before. The regenerative braking system will gather kinetic energy during braking or deceleration to provide an additional torque under acceleration.

Feature-wise, the new 2023 Toyota Fortuner will be much loaded than the current generation. The SUV might be offered with the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) featuring blind spot detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic parking assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and lane departure. The existing hydraulic steering wheel will be replaced with an electric power unit. The new Fortuner will also come with the vehicle stability control (VSC) system.

The current-generation Toyota Fortuner comes in 9 variants priced from Rs 32.59 lakh – Rs 50.34 lakh (all, ex-showroom). With significant design, feature and mechanical upgrades, the SUV will surely witness a price hike.
