Tesla’s entry in India will surely be one of the biggest events of this year. Recently, Chief Minister of Karnataka – BS Yediyurappa, confirmed that the Tesla will setup its manufacturing plant in Karnataka. The company has already registered its Indian subsidiary as ‘Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt Ltd. In Bengaluru. India is now listed among the countries where the carmaker sell Model 3 electric car in the Tesla website source code. However, the website link still shows 404 not found error.
The American carmaker will begin setting up its dealerships and sales network in coming months. The Model 3 electric sedan will be the first offering from the company that’s reported to hit roads by the end of the first quarter of fiscal year 2021-22. In India, the Model 3 will be brought via CBU (Completely Built Up) unit from Tesla’s China based Gigafactory.
Globally, the Tesla Model 3 is available with single (Standard Range and Standard Range Plus RWD) and dual-motor (Long Range AWD and Long Range Performance AWD) options. The entry-level Standard Range and Standard Range Plus RWD are claimed to offer a range of 423km and accelerate 100kmph from standstill in 6 seconds. The Long Range AWD and Long Range Performance AWD are capable to do 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds and over 3 seconds respectively. The Long Range AWD promises range of around 568km.
The Model 3 is the most affordable vehicle from Tesla that’s expected to be priced upwards of Rs 55 lakh. Reports suggest that carmaker might also bring in the Tesla Model X and Model Y in India. In global markets, the American carmaker will introduce the production-ready Tesla Cyberturck towards the end of this year. A new Tesla Roadster with top speed of over 400kmph will also see a release this year. It will be a small and affordable electric car that’s expected to cost from USD 25,000.
