India Not Likely To Get New-Gen Isuzu MU-X; Old BS6 Model Spied

Japanese automaker, Isuzu has discontinued the MU-X mid-sized SUV in India last year due to BS6 emission norms. It was speculated that Isuzu will introduce the new-generation MU-X, which is already on sale in select international markets including Thailand. Instead of launch the new model, Isuzu will most likely to launch the BS6 version of the previous generation MU-X in India.

The BS6-compliant Isuzu MU-X has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The exterior design of the BS6 model is exactly same as the previous model. At the time of launch, the BS6 MU-X could receive some design changes and better equipped cabin. The previous model didn’t have premium and upmarket interior, and feels outdated compared to its rivals including the Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner.

The BS6 Isuzu MU-X is likely to come with new features, which was missing in the previous model. The SUV was offered with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system without Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This smartphone connectivity options could be offered on the new model. The SUV is likely to get cruise control, power adjustable driver’s seat, automatic AC, panoramic sunroof and others.

The new BS6 Isuzu MU-X will be powered by a BS6-compliant 3.0-litre, inline-4, turbocharged diesel engine. This engine is likely to produce around 174bhp of power and 380Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer. Rear-wheel-drive system will be offered as standard, while a 4WD system will come as optional.

The new-gen Isuzu MU-X on sale in Thailand is available in two engine options – a 1.9-litre diesel and a 3.0-litre diesel. While the former is good for 150bhp and 350Nm of torque, the 3.0L turbo-diesel produces 190bhp and 450Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
