Tesla Enters India – Launch Plans and Model 3 Details

Tesla, the major American electric automobile manufacturer, has finally marked its India entry with the registration of its Indian subsidiary. As per the documents filed in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), the firm has been named – Tesla India Motors And Energy Private Limited in Bengaluru, Karnataka. While David Jon Feinstein is the Global Senior Director of Tesla Inc, Vaibhav Taneja has been appointed as Chief Accounting Officer at Tesla India. Venkatrangam Sreeram, which is a Bengaluru based start-up entrepreneur, is associated with Cleartquote technologies and Xenon Automotive. B S Yediyurappa, CM of Karnataka, has also confirmed the news be tweeting a welcome note to Elon Musk. The American electric carmaker is planning to set-up its R&D centre in India.

Tesla Model 3 Features

Reports suggest that Tesla will start setting up its dealerships and sales network early this year. The Tesla Model 3 electric sedan will be the first offering from the American carmaker in the country. While pre-bookings are expected to begin in coming weeks, its launch is reported to happen by the end of the first quarter of fiscal year 2021-22.

The Tesla Model 3 is the most affordable vehicle in the company’s global product lineup. The 5-seater coupe comes in three variants Standard Range (RWD – rear-wheel-drive), Standard Range Plus (RWD), Long Range (AWD – all-wheel-drive) and Long Range Performance (AWD) – packed with a 60kW lithium-ion battery pack. It offers a range between 381km – 580km (as per WLTP cycle) on a single charge.

Its battery pack can be 50 percent charged at Tesla Supercharger stations within 20-30 minutes. The Tesla Model 3 is capable to achieve 0 to 96kmph in under 6 seconds. The electric sedan comes with Autopilot feature that enables the vehicle to steer within a lane and change lane with a tap of the turn signal. It also helps with parallel-parking and managing speed by using active, traffic-aware cruise control. Some of its other key features include a huge landscape-oriented tablet, a single-pane panoramic sunroof and more.
