Tata, Toyota Gained Highest Market Share In August 2021

Tata Motors, India’s third largest automaker, has gained the highest market share in August 2021. The company managed to retail 28,017 units last month that translates into market share of 10.8%. During the same time period previous year, Tata sold 18,583 units and had market share of 7.9%. Toyota India is the second highest gainer with total sales of 12,769 units that sums up into market share of 4.9%. The Japanese carmaker, with sales of 5,555 units, had market share of 2.4% in August 2020. That means, the company gained market share of 2.5%. Kia India was the third highest market share YoY gainer with total sales of 16,750 units (6.5%) in August 2021 against 10,853 units (4.6%) of the same month last year.

India’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki registered the highest decline in market share YoY (8.5%) despite the fact the industry recorded a YoY growth of 10.9%. In fact, Hyundai Motors India’s market share fell from 19.6% (August 2020) to 18.1% (August 2021), thus summing a YoY decline of 1.5%.

Tata & Toyota’s Future Plans

Meanwhile, Tata Motors is getting ready to launch its new micro SUV – Tata Punch. While its official launch date is yet to be announced, the vehicle is reported to arrive during festive season (possibly towards the end of September or early October 2021). It’s likely to be packed with several segment-first features including hill start assist, hill decent control and traction modes (Sand, Mud, Snow and Rock).

Toyota India is reported to launch the hybrid version of the Innova Crysta MPV and Fortuner SUV in near future. The Japanese carmaker will also give a generation change to the Fortuner sometime next year. The SUV’s new model is reported to come with ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), vehicle stability control, electric power steering and diesel hybrid powertain. Significant cosmetic and feature upgrades will also be made to the vehicle.
