All-New Mahindra Scorpio To Share Diesel Engine With XUV700 MX

Mahindra & Mahindra recently announced prices of the 5-seater XUV700 SUV at start at Rs 11.99 lakh. The model lineup is spread across four variants – MX petrol, MX diesel, AX3 petrol and AX5 petrol – available with manual gearbox only. The petrol model uses a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine that’s good for 200bhp and 380Nm and the diesel version comes with 2.2L, 4-cylinder mHawk turbo unit making 155bhp with 360Nm and 185bhp with 420Nm (MT)/450Nm (AT). The lower state diesel motor is reserved for entry-level variant, while its more powerful version is available only on higher variants.

According to a fresh media report, the new-generation Mahindra Scorpio will share its diesel engine with the entry-level Mahindra XUV700 MX variant. That means, the 155bhp, 2.2L mHawk oil burner with manual and automatic gearbox options. Powering the petrol model will be the detuned version of the XUV700’s 2.0L turbo unit. The new Scorpio will continue to be offered with rear-wheel drive (RWD) system.

The recent sighting of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio reveals that the SUV will get a 360 degree parking camera along with a new touchscreen infotainment system, a flat bottom multi functional steering wheel, dual-tone leatherette upholstery, a semi digital instrument console and a digital MID. With the generation change, the SUV will get the forward facing third row seat. It’s reported to be safer than the current generation.

The new Scorpio is likely to be packed with the multiple airbags, hill start assist, electronic stability control, rear parking camera, electronic brake force distribution (EBD), anti-lock braking system (ABS), auto wipers and auto headlamps. Similar to the Thar and the new XUV700, the upcoming 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be based on the modified ladder frame chassis. The carmaker has confirmed that the SUV will arrive in the first quarter of 2022 (i.e. January – March).
