Tata Punch SUV Might Offer Several Segment-First Features

The upcoming Tata Punch micro SUV is ready to hit roads during 2021 festive season. While the automaker hasn’t yet revealed its launch date, the model is likely to see a release in the month of September or October. In order to build excitement among buyers, the company recently dropped a few of its teaser images revealing exterior design details of the production-ready model.

Based on the HBX concept, the Punch retains most of its styling elements especially at the rear end. The mini SUV has taillamps with the Y-shaped LED elements, integrated roof spoiler and sculpted tailgate. The rear bumper, however, has been toned-down. The front fascia shares resemblance to Tata’s bigger SUVs – Harrier and Safari.

The latest teaser images make us believe that the Tata Punch could be the first vehicle in its segment to offer traction modes. It might include Mud, Sand, Rock and Snow. The micro SUV could also be packed with the segment-first hill start assist and hill decent control, thus making it more capable for different terrains. Interior and feature details of the upcoming new Tata mini SUV are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to be similar to the HBX concept. Some of its features and components could be borrowed from the Altroz premium hatchback.

For power, the new Tata Punch might use the 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol and 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines. The naturally aspirated unit is good enough for 85bhp and 113Nm of torque and the turbo-charged motor makes 100bhp. The upcoming micro SUV from Tata can be had with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.
