Tata to Launch Brezza, Baleno CNG Rivals – Details

Tata Motors has planned a range of new models (including EVs and CNG versions) for the Indian market. The company will make huge investment for local manufacturing of the lithium-ion battery and BEV technology. Besides electric mobility solutions, the home-grown automaker will bring in CNG versions of its popular models including Altroz, Punch and Nexon. The Tata Altroz CNG and Nexon CNG have already been caught testing with the emission equipment. Though, the launch timeline of the models hasn’t yet been revealed by the carmaker.

When launched, the Tata Altroz CNG will be positioned against the soon-to-be-launched Maruti Baleno CNG and Toytoa Glanza CNG. The hatchback will feature the 1.2L turbo petrol engine with a CNG kit. While the regular gasoline unit makes a top power of 110bhp and 140Nm of torque, the Altroz CNG will be slightly less powerful and torqueier.

The Tata Nexon CNG will take directly on the Maruti Brezza CNG that’s slated to arrive sometime in 2023. The model will derive its power from the 1.2 Revotron turbo petrol motor coupled with a factory fitted CNG kit. In the standard model, the turbo-petrol unit offers power worth 120bhp and 170Nm of torque. The Nexon CNG is likely to be 15bhp less powerful from the regular petrol motor. It will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Both Tata Altroz CNG and Nexon CNG will be more fuel efficient than their standard petrol counterparts. While official details of the upcoming CNG models are yet to be revealed, these are likely to be based on the mid-spec and top trims. Talking about pricing, the CNG variants of the Altroz and Nexon are expected to cost around Rs 1 lakh than their standard counterparts. Reports suggest that the carmaker is also considering Tata Punch CNG and electric iterations.

More details on the upcoming Tata CNG cars are likely to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
