Tata Motors will reveal the production version of the HBX micro SUV concept on October 4, 2021. Called the Tata Punch, the new sub-compact SUV will be positioned below the Nexon in the brand’s SUV line-up. Ahead of the official debut, key details about the Punch price range and dimensions have been revealed on the web. However, these details are not confirmed by the company.
According to a Tata Punch Facebook Group, the new sub-compact SUV will be offered in 4 trim levels – XE, XM, XT and XZ – and in total of 7 variants. The small SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 8.29 lakh. At this price range, the new Tata Punch will challenge the B-segment hatchbacks and other sub-compact SUVs including the Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite.
The group also reveals that the Tata Punch will have a wheelbase of 2,450mm. It will measure 3,840mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,635mm in height. These dimensions are similar to that of the concept; however, the width is reportedly to be reduced by 22mm. The new model sits between the Tiago and the Nexon, in terms of proportions.
Official bookings for the new SUV will commence on the day of unveiling; however, Tata dealers have already started accepting pre-orders at a token amount of Rs 5,000 to Rs 21,000. It is likely to be offered in two engine options – a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol. The naturally-aspirated engine is capable of producing 86bhp of power and 115Nm of torque, while turbo unit could offer close to 100bhp. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.
The Tata Punch will be the second model based on the ALFA-ARC modular platform, which underpins the Altroz hatchback. The new model features the IMPACT 2.0 design language, which we have already seen on latest breed of Tata cars. Tata Motors has already started dispatching the new Punch to dealerships for customer previews.
