Tata Punch is the next big launch from the home-grown carmaker that’s ready to hit showrooms in coming weeks. It will be the smallest and most affordable SUV in Tata’s product lineup. Initially, the micro SUV is reported to be offered with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated and 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines delivering 85bhp with 113Nm and 100bhp respectively. Transmission choices will include 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes.
The carmaker has also planned an electric version of the Punch mini SUV that will arrive at a later stage. While the official launch and unveiling of the Tata Punch EV is far away, a latest digital rendering previews a possible final design of the electric micro SUV. Painted in dual-tone shade (Signature Teal Blue and White roof), the rendered model carries a front grille with new bi-arrow pattern in blue accent similar to the Nexon EV.
The upper grille features the signature logo at the centre and an ‘EV’ badge at the left corner. You can also notice Blue highlights on the fog lamp surrounding and black alloy wheels. The black plastic cladding all around the body adds more to its sporty looks.
The new Tata Punch EV is likely to come with the updated Ziptron electric powertrain technology and is expected to offer a range of over 300km. As per the leaked information, the home-grown carmaker is planning to roll out a more powerful version of the Tata Nexon EV offering a peak power of 134bhp. The same powertrain could be used in the upcoming Punch electric micro SUV.
In August 2021, Tata Motors managed to retail over 10,000 units of the Nexon EV. The carmaker has revealed that it’s receiving over 2,000 bookings for the electric subcompact SUV on monthly basis. Encouraged by the success of the Nexon EV, the company will soon expand its electric product lineup.
