Tata Nexon Turbo-Petrol CNG Could Be A Possibility

Tata Motors recently introduced the i-CNG-powered Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan in the country. While the former has been priced between Rs 6.09 lakh – Rs 7.52 lakh, the latter comes in the price range of Rs 7.69 lakh – Rs 8.29 lakh. Compared to their ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) counterparts, the CNG variants are Rs 90,000 more expensive. All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom.

The Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG are powered by a 1.2L, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine coupled to a factory-fitted CNG kit. It pushes out a claimed power of 73bhp and 95Nm of torque. The CNG powertrain is 13bhp less powerful and 18Nm less torquier than the gasoline unit that’s good for 86bhp and 113Nm. Both CNG models are available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata claims that its new CNG models offer an ARAI-certified mileage of 26.49km/kg.

The home-grown automaker plans to further expand its CNG model lineup in near future. While there is no official word, the company might offer the CNG kit with the petrol- automatic (AMT) combination and turbo-petrol engine. If it happens, the Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG AMT variants will cost around Rs 50,000 premium over their CNG-manual versions. Read – Tata Altroz Automatic & Altroz EV Launch Details Out

Tata’s top-selling Nexon SUV might also receive the factory-fitted CNG kit with 1.2L turbo-petrol and 1.5L diesel engines. It will make the Tata Nexon the first car to come with turbo-petrol CNG powertrain in the country. The CNG kit could be offered with the 6-speed manual or AMT gearbox. The automaker is also reported to introduce the Tata Punch CNG variant featuring 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine with a CNG kit.

One must note that the official launch details of the upcoming Tata CNG models are yet to be revealed by the company. Though, these models are expected to start arriving from 2023.
