Tata Motors plans to launch 10 new models by the end of this year. The company recently rolled out the CNG versions of the Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan at a starting price of Rs 6.09 lakh and Rs 7.69 lakh respectively (all, ex-showroom). Speaking to caranbike, Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said that the launch of the Tata Altroz automatic will take place this year.
Earlier, the hatchback’s automatic version was slated to arrive in mid 2022. It has been delayed due to global shortage of semi-conductor components. He also revealed that the Tata Altroz EV will also be introduced “at the right time”. First previewed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the electric hatchback was planned to launch within two years. However, several things have changed since its unveiling.

Tata Altroz Automatic
Reports suggest that the hatchback’s automatic version might be offered with a 7-speed DT-1 dual-clutch automatic gearbox sourced from Punch Powertrain. The transmission unit has been designed for compact cars with torque up to 200Nm. It will be more affordable than the conventional DCT and torque convertor automatic gearboxes. The new transmission will come with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine.
Tata Altroz EV
For power, the Altroz EV will use the brand’s Ziptron technology that consists of an IP-67 certified lithium battery and a permanent magnet AC motor. It will deliver a range between 250km – 300km. The company might be introduced the updated version of the Ziptron tech that will debut on the new Nexon EV facelift. Similar to the compact electric SUV, the Altroz EV could be offered with the ZConnect app offering 35 connected car features.
