Tata Nexon Now 2nd Top-Selling Car; All SUVs & Most Hatches Beaten

Tata Nexon has been a volume generator for the Indian automaker since its launch in 2017. In fact, the subcompact continues to be the top-selling sub-4 metre SUV for the sixth consecutive month. In May 2022, the home-grown carmaker managed to sell 14,614 units of the Nexon against 6,439 units of the same month previous year. The model registered Y-o-Y sales of 127 percent. Tata’s subcompact SUV outsold the Hyundai Creta with a margin of 3,641 units. The latter one recorded total sales of 10,973 units in May 2022.

Currently, the Tata Nexon is available with a 110bhp, 1.5L diesel and a 110bhp, 1.2L petrol engine. There are three gearboxes on offer – a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed Amt and a 5-speed AMT. If reports are to be believed, the carmaker will introduce the DCT (dual-clutch transmission) automatic gearbox on the Nexon model lineup. Prices of the Nexon start from Rs 7.55 lakh and go up to Rs 13.90 lakh (all, ex-showroom).

2020 Tata Nexon BS6

Tata Motors is planning to give a generation change to the Nexon subcompact SUV sometime next year. Though, there is no official word on its launch timeline. One of the biggest changes will come in the form of the Alfa (Agile, Light & Flexible Architecture) platform, sourced from the Punch mini SUV. A few changes will be made to its exterior and interior. Compared to the current model, the new one is likely to feature more refined engines.

If reports are to be believed, the new-gen Nexon could be benefited with the mild hybrid technology. It will make the subcompact SUV more fuel efficient than the existing one. With this update, the model will comply to the upcoming stringent CAFÉ regulations and updated BS6 emission standards. The company is also working on the Tata Nexon Coupe SUV that will have 50mm longer wheelbase than the sub-4 metre SUV. Initially, it could be offered with the electric powertrain, followed by ICE version.
