After Altroz, Tata Nexon To Get Dual-Clutch Automatic Gearbox

After introducing the Altroz with DCT automatic gearbox, Tata Motors is now ready to add the DCT gearbox to its popular sub-4 meter SUV – Tata Nexon. The Tata Nexon DCT is expected to be launched in the country in the next few months.

The Tata Altroz DCT is currently the most affordable model with dual-clutch automatic gearbox in India. It is powered by a 1.2L 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. However, the new DCT is compatible with Tata’s more potent 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine has higher power output and torque.

A new media report claims that this gearbox can handle more torque and can easily be paired with Tata’s turbo petrol engine as well. The Tata Nexon is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that churns out 120PS and 170Nm of torque. It is currently offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT. The same engine is tuned for the Altroz iTurbo, and offers 110PS and 140Nm of torque. It is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Tata Nexon is currently the best-selling sub-4 meter SUV in the country. The SUV is the next to receive the more refined dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Nexon DCT will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Sonet DCT. The Venue & Sonet are powered by a 120PS, 1.0L turbo-petrol engine with a 7-speed DCT.

The Tata Nexon is likely to be offered with multiple gearbox options including manual, AMT & DCT. It is expected that the Altroz iTurbo variant will also receive the DCT gearbox. The Altroz turbo DCT variant will rival the Hyundai i20 DCT.

The Altroz DCT is around Rs 1.07 lakh expensive than the regular manual petrol variant. Similar price hike is expected with the Nexon DCT. The Tata Nexon petrol range is currently available in the price bracket of Rs 7.43 lakh to Rs 11.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
