Tata To Launch Hyundai Creta Rival By Next Year

Land Rover Based Tata SUV

Scheduled to be launched by mid-2018, the new Tata SUV will be slotted between the Nexon and Hexa

The SUV craze is at its peak in India and while Tata has just launched a sub four-meter model in the segment, the company is now considering a Creta rival that could be launched sometime next year. Codenamed Tata Q501, testing for the compact SUV has already started on the Indian roads. Upon its launch, the SUV will primarily go against top-selling Hyundai Creta model which even after two years of its launch, enjoys great popularity among customers. The upcoming Tata Q501 will sit between the Nexon and Hexa in Tata’s line-up and hence will be priced accordingly. Also See – Upcoming Tata Cars In India

With Nexon, Tata seems to carve out a niche spot in the subcompact SUV space and is aggressively working towards attaining the same spot in the compact space currently ruled by Creta. Reports in media indicate that Tata Motors is planning to launch its Creta rival sometime in 2018. Details about the upcoming Tata car is under the wraps, though the model could be built on Tata’s Advanced Modular Platform.

Power sources on the Q501 are likely to be the same petrol and diesel units that power Nexon. That said, it could come with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit along with a 1.5-litre diesel powertrain. Also Read – Tata Cars To Be Unveiled At Auto Expo 2018

In addition to Q501, Tata is also working on a handful of models to compete with credible rivals in the competitive segments. One of the other upcoming Tata cars slated to launch in India in the coming months is the Q502 SUV. While details on the model are yet hazy, it is likely to be a premium five-seater SUV that could be displayed alongside other Tata models at the 2018 Auto Expo in February.
