Tata-JLR To Launch 3 New Models In Next 5 Years

JLR has revealed that the first model to arrive in the market will be the Land Rover Defender.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a subsidiary of the home-grown Tata Motors, will launch three new models in the coming five years. While the first model will roll out in the financial year 2020-21, the rest two products will hit roads between 2021 and 2024. With the addition of three new models, JLR product lineup will expand from 13 to 16 models. The company has revealed that the first model to arrive in the market will be the Land Rover Defender. The company is also to planning to move most of its vehicles to a new modular platform – MLA (Modular Longitudinal Platform). The shifting process will begin in 2020 with the new Land Rover Defender. JLR said that the new platform will give it “increased flexibility, commonality, standardization and scale”. Currently, the carmaker makes use of six platforms including the D8, D2a, D6a, D8, D7A (Jaguar XF and XE sedans, Jaguar F-Pace SUV and the Range Rover Velar SUV), D7U (Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Discovery SUVs). While the D7U and D7A are composed of aluminum, the D8 is a steel platform and a heavily revised version of a Ford architecture.

The D8 platform will be categorized into four – Low, Mild, High and Sports Pace. It will be used for new small models until the fiscal year 2024-25. After that, the JLR vehicles will be switched to the new MLA architecture. Check Out – New Land Rover Discovery – Pictures & Details

JLR will commence operations in its first assembly plant in Slovakia in September, 2018. The facility has production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year. The first model to be manufactured here will be the Land Rover Discovery, followed by the Land Rover Defender.
