Tata Timero Could Be the Name of Production-Ready Tata HBX Mini SUV

A recently leaked document suggests that Tata Motors has trademarked the name Tata Timero in India. The new nameplate is likely to be the official name of the production version of the Tata HBX mini SUV concept that broke cover at this year’s Auto Expo in February. The upcoming mini SUV is currently undergoing testing in the country, and based on the spy pictures, it’s nearing production.

The carmaker has already confirmed that the Tata HBX concept based model will hit roads early next year. Once launched, it will be go up against the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Mahindra KUV100.

Featuring Tata’s Impact 2.0 design language, the production-ready HBX mini SUV (Tata Timero) will retain most of its styling elements from the concept. The split headlamp setup seems to be borrowed from the Tata Harrier. Unlike the concept, the final model will have conventional front grille and bumper along with low-mounted circular fog lamps. While the indicators will be mounted on the ORVMs, the silver faux bash plate will be removed.

Design bits such as LED taillamps with tri-arrow pattern, a small roof-mounted spoiler and a raked rear windscreen will be carried over from the concept. The production version (Tata Timero) is likely to come with the 15-inch alloy wheels with standard tyres instead of the chunky, off-road rubber. Dimensionally, the concept and final model are expected to the same size (i.e. 3840mm in length, 1822mm in width and 1635mm in height with a wheelbase of 2450mm. One of the major highlight of the Tata HBX (Tata Timero) could be the brand’s 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine with direct-injection technology. The entry-level trims might be offered with the 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol motor that also does duty in the Tiago hatchback, Tigor compact sedan and Altroz premium hatchback. Transmission choices might include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT unit.
