Tata Gravitas SUV – How Similar & Different from Harrier

The upcoming Tata Gravitas 6-seater SUV has been caught on camera multiple times during its test rounds in the country. The new Tata SUV first broke cover as the Buzzard concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, followed by its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. The carmaker showcased its 6-seater version featuring captain seats in the middle row. Similar to its upcoming arch rival – MG Hector Plus, the Gravitas will be offered with 6 and 7-seats layout. Though, the former’s 7-seater version will arrive at a later stage.

The overall length, width and height of the Tata Gravitas stand at 4661mm, 1894mm and 1786mm respectively. The SUV sits on a 2741mm long wheelbase. While its width and wheelbase are similar to the Harrier 5-seater, the length and height have been increased by 63mm and 80mm respectively. The new 6/7-seater SUV has larger side windows and a steeped roof at the rear improving comfort for the third row occupants. The middle row seats come with a one-touch flip and fold function ensuring easy access to the third row.

Compared to the Harrier, the Gravitas has more upright tailgate. The taillamps and rear bumper have also been revised. Though, the black strip running between the taillamp clusters is exactly similar to the Harrier. For power, the Tata Gravitas will use the BS6-compliant 2.0L engine that’s good enough for 170bhp and 350Nm. The same powertrain does duty in the updated Harrier. The SUV will be offered with a manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The automatic unit, which has been sourced from Hyundai, is also available on the 2020 Harrier model lineup. Similar to its 5-seater sibling, the Gravitas is likely to come with 2WD (two-wheel-drive) system.
