Initially, the Tata Gravitas will be made available with the Harrier’s 2.0L turbocharged Kryotec diesel engine. The carmaker, however, will calibrate the oil burner for generating extra power. While the Harrier delivers 138bhp with 350Nm of torque, the Gravitas will be good enough for 170bhp with 350Nm.
In the second half of 2020, Tata might introduce the petrol iteration of the Gravitas. The 7-seater SUV might get an in-house developed 1.6L direct injection gasoline motor meeting the upcoming BS6 emission norms. Read – Tata Safari Strome Discontinued In India
While the official specs of the new petrol engine are yet to be revealed, it’s likely to deliver power around 140PS-150PS and the torque output will range from 250Nm to 300Nm. The same petrol powertrain will also be introduced on the Harrier lineup.
The Tata Gravitas will come with two transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Rumour has it that the automatic gearbox will be replaced with a dual-clutch (DCT) automatic transmission in the near future for both petrol and diesel motors.
The DCT gearbox unit will also be used in Tata’s Alfa-Arc platform based cars including H2X concept based mini SUV and Altroz premium hatchback. The Tata Altroz is all set to debut on 3rd December, 2019, followed by its public unveiling at the 2020 Auto Expo.
