Tata Cars/SUVs/EVs To Get Expensive In January 2023

Tata Motors has announced it will increase prices of its entire passenger vehicle range in January 2023. The carmaker has attributed the hike to offset the impact of commodity prices and to conform to stricter emission standards that will be implemented from 1st April, 2023.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director – Passenger Vehicle and Electric Vehicles, Tata Motors, said that “The regulatory change will have its impact on the cost. Even the real impact of softening of commodity prices is only going to come from next quarter and we still have the residual impact of the commodity escalation that we have seen during the year”.

He also revealed that the company hasn’t yet passed on the impact of the increased battery prices to the market. Therefore, the Tata electric cars (along with the ICE-powered vehicles) will witness “potential price” increase next month. In the EV segment, the company currently sells Nexon EV, Tiago EV and Tigor EV. Tata’s Indian product portfolio includes a total of 7 models including Tiago hatchback, Altroz premium hatchback, Tigor compact sedan, Punch mini SUV, Nexon subcompact SUV, Harrier mid-size SUV and Safari SUV.

In January 2023, the home-grown automaker is reported to unveil the new Tata Harrier and Safari facelifts. Both models will be put up on display at the Delhi Auto Expo. Minor cosmetic changes will be made to the SUVs. The 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari are likely to receive ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) offering features such as adaptive cruise control, electronic stability control, collision mitigation system, blind spot assist, hill start aid, lane departure warning system, automatic traction control and departure warning system.

The carmaker might also equip the new Harrier and Safari with a 360 degree surround view camera and an updated infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. No changes are likely to be made under the hood. Both SUVs will use the same 170bhp, 2.0L diesel engine with manual and automatic gearboxes.
