Toyota has recently launched the new Innova Zenix in the Indonesian market. In our market, the new MPV is called the Innova Hycross. The new model is based on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform that underpins the Corolla Cross, and is offered with petrol and petrol-hybrid fuel options. For people not in the know, Toyota had showcased the Innova Electric concept at the 2021 GIIAS. In fact, the Innova Crysta electric has already been spotted testing on public road.
A new media report claims that Toyota is developing the electric version of the new Innova Hycross/ Zenix. It is reported that the electrified Innova Hycross will only be offered to fleet owners. The Innova Crysta is based on the ladder-frame chassis with rear wheel drive layout, while the Innova Hycross is based on the monocoque chassis with a front wheel drive configuration.
The report further claims that apart from the Innova Crysta electric prototye that was showcased at Indonesia International Motor Show in Jakarta, two more such prototypes in Indonesia and two more in Thailand for testing purposes. The Indonesian model is at Toyota Astra Motors, Jakarta, and the other is introduced for exhibitions and shows. The prototypes for Thailand are at the regional R&D base of Asia Pacific via Toyota Daihatsu Engineering Manufacturing. One prototype was dismantled for Hycross (Zenix) to make an electric version.
The report claims that this prototype will be aimed at government and private fleet operators. Adding to it, the electric Hycross will target the GSO and companies that want to go green. One such is a mining company firm that has safety risk from using ICE cars.
Damanik’s studio has released a render of the upcoming prototype of Innova Hycross electric. The render shows the possible design of the Zenix EV, and the styling elements are inspired from the Crysta electric prototype. The electric model gets a new front fascia with a closed-off grille. The render has a blue surround and there are blue colour splashes in the side profile.
