The Tata Buzzard 7-seater SUV will be the brand’s new flagship model in India

Tata Motors has unveiled the much-awaited 7-seater SUV, codenamed H7X at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Called the Tata Buzzard, the SUV will be the brand’s new flagship model in India. Positioned above Harrier and the 2019 Hexa, the Tata Buzzard will challenge the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming MG Hector SUV.

The Tata Buzzard is built on the Tata’s new OMEGA platform, which is sourced from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. This platform also underpins the Harrier 5-seater SUV. It shares the same 2,741mm wheelbase with the 5-seater sibling; however, the Buzzard is 62mm longer than the latter. The increase in length allows the Buzzard to accommodate the third row of seats. The SUV comes equipped with 18-inch wheels, footboards and roof-rails.

The overall design is very similar to the Harrier 5-seater SUV, but it comes with more conventional SUVs stance. The rear witnessed the maximum changes in the form of new C-pillar, re-styled tail-lights and new bumper.

The biggest change in the Buzzard is made under the bonnet. It is powered by a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre KRYOTEC diesel engine. While powering the Harrier, this engine produces 138bhp and 350Nm of torque. The company has tuned this powertrain to offer 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

The Tata Buzzard SUV is expected to arrive in India in the second half of 2019. The SUV is likely to be priced around Rs 15 lakh – Rs 22 lakh, which makes it the most expensive Tata in India. The company has also unveiled the Altroz hatchback, Altroz EV and the H2X small SUV concept. What’s interesting is that Tata has also showcased the Buzzard Sport model at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. This is basically the Harrier SUV.
